You can see the remnants of a crashed Japanese Mitsubishi K1-21 heavy bomber plane near the Rabaul Airport in the East New Britain Province of Papua New Guinea, in what was once known as the Lakunai Airfield. It was known as a “Sally Bomber” and it crashed during the actual war. It reportedly had a landing accident during the war and was subsequently abandoned by the Japanese troops. The Mitsubishi K1-21 required at least four crew members to operate and could fly for up to five hours without the need to refuel. It had a max bombload of 1,650 pounds.
